Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication is the reason I keep renewing, full stop. Two years into running Okta for a mid-size education nonprofit, I still find myself surprised by how granular the policy controls are. I can set risk-based authentication rules that behave differently for a student logging in from campus versus a board member connecting from an unfamiliar device overseas. That context-awareness, built right into the policy engine without requiring a custom integration, has saved my small IT team from a mountain of manual exceptions. The Okta Expression Language takes some ramp-up time, but once you understand it, the conditions you can write are genuinely impressive.
For a nonprofit budget, the value question is always front of mind. Their nonprofit pricing made it workable, and two years in I have not once regretted the decision. Onboarding new staff through automated provisioning tied to our HR system cut what used to be a half-day task down to minutes. Customer support is responsive but occasionally routes you through one too many tiers before reaching someone with real technical depth. Minor friction. The core product more than earns it.
