Setting up a password manager for a company that's growing faster than its processes is genuinely hard. So when I finally got the admin console open and started building out vaults and groups, I was braced for a mess. What I found instead was one of the cleaner permission structures I've touched in a while. You can assign people to groups, attach groups to vaults with specific access levels (view, fill, edit, manage), and the whole thing clicks into place in a way that actually matches how a real team operates. New hire starts Monday? I can have them in the right vaults inside three minutes. Someone leaves? Offboarding is tidy. That clarity matters a lot when you're not yet big enough to have a dedicated IT department.
The provisioning side is where I've been spending most of my time these past two months or so. Enforcing two-factor authentication across the team took some pushing, mostly because 1Password buries the enforcement toggle in a spot that isn't obvious on first pass. I wandered around the settings for longer than I'd like to admit before finding it. Their documentation is solid once you locate the right article, but discovery inside the product itself could be smoother.
Still, that's a minor friction point against a lot of things that just work. The family account add-on for team members is a thoughtful touch. The activity log gives me exactly what I need for a quick audit. And the Watchtower feature quietly flags weak or reused credentials across the team, which has already started some useful conversations about password hygiene. For a startup at our stage, this feels like the right tool at the right time.
