First week with Dext genuinely surprised me. I signed up on a Monday, half-expecting the usual nightmare of watching tutorial videos for two hours before anything makes sense. That did not happen. The onboarding flow walked me through connecting my accounting software, setting up my first supplier rules, and snapping a receipt with my phone, all within about forty minutes. For a solo operator who doesn't have an IT department to hold my hand, that felt almost too easy. I kept waiting for the part where it got complicated.
Once I was past setup, the receipt capture became part of my daily routine fast. I photograph an invoice the moment it lands in my inbox, Dext reads it, categorizes it, and pushes it through. Honestly the supplier matching is what sold me on keeping it. I have a handful of repeat vendors and the tool learned them quickly. The mobile app is genuinely good, not the clunky afterthought you sometimes get from accounting tools.
My one real gripe is the pricing page. As a freelancer watching every dollar, I found the tier structure a little confusing at first, and I wasn't totally sure which plan covered the volume I needed. I had to email support to clarify, and while they responded same day (no complaints there), that information should be clearer before you commit. Minor thing, but worth knowing if you're evaluating this carefully. Overall I'm glad I switched from the manual spreadsheet method I'd been clinging to.
