Switched to Okta from a competitor about five years ago, and honestly that decision still holds up. The old platform was clunky around multi-factor authentication and its admin console felt like it was designed by committee. Okta's Universal Directory cleaned that up immediately. Provisioning and deprovisioning users across our charity's sprawling mix of cloud apps (Google Workspace, Salesforce, a handful of education-specific tools) became something my small IT team could actually manage without a Friday afternoon panic. Single sign-on works reliably, and the lifecycle management features have genuinely reduced the risk of orphaned accounts when staff turn over.
The one gripe I keep coming back to is pricing. For a non-profit operating on tight grant funding, the per-user cost adds up fast, and I don't think their non-profit discount tier is as generous as it could be. Customer support has also become noticeably slower over the years, which stings when you're dealing with an authentication issue at nine in the morning. Still, nothing else I've evaluated comes close for this level of identity management at scale.
